Karnataka Common Entrance Test popularly known as KCET 2016 is a state level exam. It is conducted to offer admission in to undergraduate Medical and Dental programmes in as many as 42 medical colleges (3301 MBBS Seats) and 38 Dental Institutes(830 BDS Seats) of Karnataka. Applicants shall fill the application form till March, 2016. KCET Medical Exam is conducted by the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA).

 

 Eligibility

  • Candidates must be of 17 years of age on before December 31, 2016

  • Applicants ought to pass in Higher Secondary Certificate examination or its equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually can apply for the examination. Applicants should have scored a minimum aggregate of 50% in Higher Secondary Examination in English, Physics, Chemistry or Biology subjects taken together to apply for the examination (40% in case of SC/ ST/ OBC category)

 

 Exam Pattern

  • KCET 2016  exam will be pen and paper based..

  •  The examination shall be conducted in ENGLISH language .

  • This year, the exam will be conducted on 4 & 5 May, 2016.The First paper which will be conducted on May4,2016  will be of Biology.Physics and Chemistry  which will be conducted on May5,2016.

  • Time duration for each subject will be 80 minutes.

  •  The questions for KCET Entrance Examination 2016 will be based on the syllabus as prescribed by State Board Hr. Sec. and CBSE for XI & XII Standards.

  •  The pattern of KCET Entrance Examination is Physics: 60Q, Chemistry: 60Q, Biology: 60Q. Each answer with correct response shall be awarded ONE mark. ZERO mark will be given for the question NOT answered. There is NO NEGATIVE MARKING.

  •  In order to qualify the entrance exam, candidates belonging to general categories have to secure a minimum of 50% marks in the entrance exam, whereas candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories have to obtain a minimum of 40% marks.

 

Application form 

    1. Form Fees  -   For online KCET application form candidates will have to pay the application fee via Bank or Computerized Post Office. General and OBC Residents of Karnataka are supposed to remit Rs. 650 as application fee. Whereas, SC/ ST candidates of Karnataka will have to submit Rs. 500, for the same. Apart from this, all the non-residents of Karnataka will be required to remit Rs. 750, irrespective of their category, and the fee amount for the international candidates is Rs. 5000.

    2.Registration And Procedure For Making Online Application

For Karnataka Students

  • Applicants will get the application forms from the participating schools / colleges located within Karnataka.

  • Applicants have to first download the bank challan from KEA website by entering their name, date of birth, category and the name of the bank.

  • Applicants have to pay the application fee in any of the respective bank branches. The bank will retain a copy of the challan and handover the remaining two copies of the challan to the applicants.

  • Applicants have to handover the challan to the concerned school / college principal to obtain the brochure.

For Non Karnataka Students

  • Applicants of Karnataka source residing outside the state of Karnataka including Horanadu and Gadinadu Kannadigas and wards of Jammu & Kashmir migrants can obtain the Karnataka CET 2016 application form through speed post.

  • Candidates have to send a self-addressed cloth-lined envelope of size 25cm x 30cm along with a demand draft (DD) of Rs 750/- drawn in favor of “The Executive Director, Karnataka Examinations Authority, Bangalore.” payable at  Bangalore.

  • The Karnataka applicants residing outside India can get the brochure cum application form by sending a DD of Rs 5,000/- to KEA.

  • Applicant should write the contents in the envelope in English or Kannada language only. Applicant need to send the DD and envelope in a cover and should be boldly super scribed with the words “REQUEST FOR CET-2016 BROCHURE” and must sent to the address of Executive Director by speed post only

Reservation of seats

Candiates belonging to the reserved category must also have fulfil the eligibility criteria of KCET 2016. In case of not fulfilling any of the eligibility coditions, the candidate will not be allowed to appear in the exam. Categories for Karnataka CET 2016 reservation Criteria are as follows:

  • NCC Special Category – Number or percentage of seats reserved for NCC will be updated after the official notification by Karnataka Examination Authority. The seats will be reserved (under NCC category) for the following candidates:

1.  Candidates having a B-Certificate and who have obtained 5 years education in Karnataka and the candidates who have participated in Republic Day Camp organized by Director General of National Cadet Corps, Delhi OR in any of the following camps:

  • All India Thal Sainik Camp (Boys) – TSC

  • All India Thal Sainik Camp (Girls) – TSC (G)

  • All India Nau Sainik Camp – NSC

  • All India Vayu Sainik Camp – VSC

2.  Candidates, who are allowed to participate in All India Mavalankar Shooting Championship, National Level Youth Exchange Program and Foreign Naval Cruise coducted by DG, NCC and who also have been selected for DG NCC team

3.  Candidates, who will be a part of All India Movalankar Shooting Championship with KAR and GOA Director Team

4.  Candidates, who have completed Mountaineering Expeditions (over 5900 Meters), Sailing Expeditions, Motor Cycle Expeditions (more than 3500 KMs) and Cycling Expeditions (more than 1500 KMs) organized by DG, NCC / NCC Director of Karnataka & Goa

5.  Candidates, who were the part of any of the following camps/ courses and they also have a B-Certificate of 5 years for studying in Karnataka. Camps are: NIC, Mountaineering, BLC, ALC, RCTC, Trekking, Army, Navy and Air Force & Hospital Attachments.

  • Sports Special Category – Candidates, who want to avail reservation under the sports category for Karnataka, will have to win a medal or participate in following sports events.

1.  Candidates, who are winner of national level cups/medals in Super-A Games or B-Games and also have studied for 5 years in Karnataka

2.  Candidates, who are winner of cups and medals in Super-A and A- Games and have studied in Karnataka from 8th to 12th standard (5 years) while representing Karnataka

3.  Candidates, who won during their study period of 8th to 12th standard and represented Karnataka in B-Games

  • Scouts and Guide Special Category – Candidates, who are scouts/guides from class 8th to 12th and have received “President Award”.

  • Defence Special Category – In KCET 2016, 10% seats are reserved for wards of Defence Personnel.

  • Physically Disabled – Candidates have to provide the certificate of their disability for availing the reservation under Physically Disabled quota.

  • Anglo-Indian Special Category – Candidates have to provide certificate for availing reservation under Anglo-Indian Special Category. The certificate must be issued by Registered Association of Anglo-Indian Community in Karnataka and countersigned by Government Nominated.

  • OBC/SC/ST – Candidates have to provide the certificate of their cast for availing the reservation under OBC/SC/ST category.

  • Rural – 15% of total seats are reserved for this category candidate under Karnataka CET 2016 exam. Additionally, candidate must have studied for 10 years in Karnataka and education institution of the candidate must be situated in any of the small rural areas of Karnataka.

  • Kannada Medium – 5% of the total seats are reserved for the candidates, who have completed their education in Kannada Medium (from 1st to 10th grade).
