
The SSC CHSL Exam is administered and conducted by Staff Selection Commission for the selection of candidates for recruitment to the post of Postal Assistants / Sorting Assistants, Data Entry Operator (DEO) and Lower Division Clerks (LDC) in various govt. departments & ministries.
Eligibility

Educational Qualification – Candidate should have passed class XII or intermediate exam or equivalent from a state or central recognized institute.

Age Limit – Candidate’s age must be between 18 years and 27 years as on 1 August 2015.

Upper Age Relaxation -Relaxation in age will be given for the candidates belonging to reserved category as per the government rules. The following categories will be relaxed with respect to age.

Exam Pattern
Scheme of Examination: The examination will consist of a Written Examination and Skill Test for the post of Data Entry Operator and Written Test and Typing Test for the post of Postal Assistant/ Sorting Assistant & Lower Division Clerk on Computer.
Written Examination: The Paper will consist of Objective Type- Multiple choice questions only. The questions will be set both in English & Hindi for Part-I, III & IV.

Note-I: There will be negative marking of 0.25 marks for each wrong answer. Candidates are, therefore, advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.

B. Skill Test for Data Entry Operator: The Speed of 8000 key depressions per hour on Computer will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words key depressions as per the given passage and the duration of the said Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 strokes/key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer. The “Data Entry Speed” Skill Test would be of qualifying nature. Candidates allowed to take this test, will have to qualify the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, to be provided by the Commission or the agency authorized by the Commission to conduct such skill test at the Centre/venue so notified.
Note-I: Only those candidates who secure at least the minimum qualifying marks in the written examination, as may be fixed by the Commission at its discretion, will be called for skill test. The Commission may also at its discretion, fix qualifying marks in each component of the written examination.
C. Typing Test for PA/ SA & LDCs: Typing Test will be conducted for those candidates who qualify in the Written Examination. Such Typing Test will be conducted in English or Hindi and candidates while applying for the Examination, will have to indicate his/her choice/option for Skill Test Medium in the Application Form. The choice of language in the application will be final and no change will be allowed.
Candidates opting for English medium should have typing speed of 35 words per minute and those opting for Hindi medium should have typing speed of 30 words per minute.
The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes. Visually Handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 30 minutes.

No of vacancies 6578: Tentatively the vacancies for the post of Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, LDC and DEO are 3523, 2049 and 1006 respectively.
Salary ; selected candidates for the pots of lower division clerk and Data entry operator posts will be appointed in the pay band 1, grade pay rs 2400 for Data entry operator DEO , and lower Division Clerk in the pay 1 , grade pay of rs 1900. These posts are categories in Group C category of various Central Government Ministries / Departments / Offices.

Application Fee:
For Offline Applications
Candidates have to pay a fee of Rs.100 as application fee thru CRF stamps which can be bought from the post office. These stamps have to be cancelled by the postal office before pasting on the application form. If the stamps are not cancelled, the application form would be rejected.
For Online Applications
Payment in case of online applications can be done thru SBI bank challan or net banking portal. The challan has to be downloaded, printed and submitted at any CBS branch of SBI. While opting for net-banking, submit the details of password, ID to make the payment. Nominal service charges will be levied in case of net-banking payment, which has to be borne by the candidate himself.
Exemption of Fee
Fee is exempted for all women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped and Ex-Servicemen eligible for reservation, as per the norms of Government of India.

It would include questions of both verbal and non-verbal type. Visually handicapped candidates (with 40% disability and above) will be allowed 35 minutes including compensatory time 20 minutes for the skill test.
The “Data Entry Speed” Skill Test would be of qualifying nature. Candidates allowed to take this test, will have to qualify the test at the prescribed speed on Computer, to be provided by the Commission or the agency authorized by the Commission to conduct such skill test at the Centre/venue so notified.
General Awareness:
Questions are designed to test the candidate’s general awareness of the environment around him and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person. The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighbouring countries especially pertaining to History, Culture, Geography, Economic Scene, General policy and scientific research. For VH candidates of 40% and above visual disability and opting for SCRIBES there will be no component of Maps/Graphs/Diagrams/Statistical Data in the General Intelligence & Reasoning / Quantitative Aptitude.
