
The All India Pre-Medical / Pre-Dental Entrance Test (AIPMT)[1] is an annual medical entrance examination in India.The exam is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Delhi for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in several medical colleges across the country. At present, 15% of the total seats(3430=3180 MBBS+250 BDS) in all medical and dental colleges run by the Union of India, state governments, municipal or other local authorities in India, except in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Jammu and Kashmir, are reserved for candidates who qualify this examination.
Eligibility-
Age Limit - Applicant must be at least 17 years old as on December 31, 2016. The age limit is 25 years for general and 30 years for SC / ST / OBC category candidates
Education Qualification -

The candidate must have passed in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English individually and must have obtained a minimum of 50% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the qualifying examination.

In respect of candidates beloning to SC/ST/OBC the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology taken together in qualifying examination be 40% instead of 50% for General Candidates.

Further, for persons for locomotory disability of lower limbs, the minimum of 45% marks for General-PH and 40% marks for sC-PH/ST-PH/OBC-PH are required.
Those who are taking plus two examinations in present academic year can also appear for the entrance test provisionally, subject to their fulfilling the conditions late.

Exam Pattern

AIPMT exam will be Pen and paper based.

There will be 45 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology.

AIPMT entrance exam shall be of 3 hours duration

AIPMT entrance exam question paper will have multiple choice questions.

There will be 4 marks awarded for each correct answer and -1 for every incorrect answer

Reservation of seats

For Schedule Caste (SC), candidates 15% seats will be reserved under AIPMT 2016

For Schedule Tribe (ST) candidates, the same will be of 7.5%

For Other Backward Classes (OBC) candidates, 27% seats will be reserved. However, these seats will only be reserved in Central Education Institute and will be only for those OBC candidates who will fall under Non-Creamy layer (NCL).

Lastly, 3% seats will be reserved for Physically Handicapped (PH) candidates on horizontal basis.
