Radha Krishna Mathur appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner of India

Former defence secretary Radha Krishna Mathur has been cleared for the post of Chief Information Commissioner (CIC). He will be serving for nearly three years, making him the second-longest serving CIC.

Mathur has replaced Vijai Sharma.

Mathur’s selection as the eighth CIC — cleared by the high-level selection panel headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday and approved by President Pranab Mukherjee Thursday — is a departure from the convention of appointing the most senior Information Commissioner (IC) as the CIC.

 

Abid Ali Neemuchwala was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of IT giant Wipro.

IT giant Wipro, India’s third largest IT services exporter, on 4 January 2016 appointed current Chief Operating Officer (COO) Abid Ali Neemuchwala as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and member of the board.On the other hand, the current CEO T K Kurien was elevated as its new executive vice-chairman.

 

Britain's Costa Book Awards 2015 was won by British writer Kate Atkinson

British writer Kate Atkinson on 4 January 2016 won the novel-of-the-year prize at Britain’s Costa Book Awards 2015 for the second time in three years. She fetched the award for A God in Ruins, a story of war and its aftermath.With this, Atkinson became the first author to receive the Costa novel prize three times: forA God in Ruins in 2016, Life After Life in 2013 and Behind the Scenes at the Museum in 1995.

Former CJI SH Kapadia passes away 
Former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sarosh Homi Kapadia passed away in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was He was 68. He was chief justice from 2010 to 2012.
Kapadia was born on 29 September 1947. He had graduated from Government Law College, Mumbai.
 

After 27 years India-Nepal Bus Service resumed

 After a gap of 27 years, a bus service between India and Nepal via Champawat in Uttarakhand resumed on january4,2016.The bus which runs between Kanchanpur in Nepal close to Banbasa border in Champavat district of Uttarakhand and Anand Vihar

The service had been suspended 27 years back in the wake of the Indo-Nepal Trade and Transit Treaty

 

RBI imposes Rs 1 crore fine on State Bank of Travancore

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has imposed a penalty of Rs 1 crore on an SBI associate bank, State Bank of TravancoreThe monetary penalty has been imposed for violation of its instructions including reporting of data to Central Repository of Information on Large Credits (CRILC)
