The first female Formula One driver Maria Teresa de Filippis has passed away. 

Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first woman to compete in a world championship Formula One Grand Prix, has passed away at the age of 89.

 

The Italian made three Grand Prix starts for the Maserati team in 1958, with a best result of 10th at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Only one other woman has recorded an F1 race start. The late Lella Lombardi, also Italian, started 12 Grands Prix between 1974 and ’76.

 

73rd Annual Golden Globe Awards.

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards honored the best in film and American television of 2015 and was broadcast live on January 10, 2016, from The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The Revenant and The Martian both won Golden Globes for Best Picture and Best Actor (Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, respectively).

 

The winners of various awards are as follows: 

  • Best Motion Picture Drama: The Revenant.

  • Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy: The Martian.

  • Best Director in Motion Picture-Drama: Alejandro Inarritu for The Revenant.

  • Best Actor in Motion Picture-Drama: Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant.

  • Best Actress in Motion Picture-Drama: Brie Larson for Room.

  • Best Actor in Motion Picture or Musical or Comedy: Matt Damon for The Martian.

  • Best Actress in Motion Picture Musical or Comedy: Jennifer Lawrence for Joy.

  • Best Actor in a Supporting role in Motion Picture: Sylvester Stallone for Creed.

  • Best Actress in a Supporting role in Motion Picture: Kate Winslet for Steve Jobs.

  • Best Original Score Motion Picture:     Ennio Morricone for The Hateful Eight.

  • Best Foreign Language Film: Son of Saul (Hungary).
     

Telangana becomes first State to make gender education compulsory at graduate level.

Telangana has become the first State to introduce compulsory gender education at the graduate level; without repeating gender stereotypes in its bilingual textbook titled, ‘Towards a World of Equals.’
 
The book edited by Susie Tharu and Dr.A.Suneetha has prescribed it as the textbook for the newly introduced mandatory course on Gender Sensitization in JNTUH.
 
World Hindi Day.
Ministry of External Affairs organized  11th World Hindi Day on 10th January, 2016. Hon'ble Minister for External Affairs Mrs. Sushma Swaraj was the Chief Guest on this occasion.
 
On 10th January 2006, this day was observed for the first time. The day is observed in remembrance of the day when the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi written in Devanagari script as the Official Language of the Union on 14th September 1949.
 
International Kite festival started in Ahmedabad.
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel on Sunday inaugurated the 28th edition of International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad.
The festival of Uttarayan marks the day when winter begins to turn into summer, according to the Indian calendar. It is the sign for farmers that the sun is back and that harvest season is approaching which is called Makara Sankranti.
 
Nepal is elected as UNICEF’s executive board member for 2016-2018.
Nepal has been elected to the Unicef executive board, representing the group of Asia-Pacific countries for the term 2016-2018.Nepal's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN Durga Prasad Bhattarai, has also been unanimously elected as vice-president to the bureau of the executive board on Saturday, according to Nepal's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York.
 
Nepal recently completed its terms as a member of the UN economic and social council (ECOSOC) for 2013-2015 and as vice-president from Asia-Pacific region at the executive board of UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS for the year 2015.
 
Nepal had contributed to the Unicef by remaining in the executive board in different times including 1982 to 1985, 1992 to 1995 and 2002 to 2004.

Rene Holten Poulsen has been named Denmark's sportsperson of 2015.

 Danish kayaker Rene Holten Poulsen was on Saturday named the country's sportsperson of the year 2015, in Herning, Denmark.

The Sports Confederation of Denmark and Danish Jyllands-Posten newspaper voted to award Poulsen the prize, which is known as Sports Name of the Year and is among the country's top sports prizes.

 

The 27-year-old kayaker from Maribo Kayak Club won a total of six medals in international championships in 2015, including two World Cup medals, three European Championship medals and one European Games bronze medal.

 

Balkrishna Garg has been conferred with 2015 Harikrishna Devsare Baalsahitya Award.

Veteran poet Balkrishna Garg was honoured with the second Harikrishna Devsare Baalsahitya Award 2015 for his collection of poems for children, titled 'BaalGeet'. 
Sahitya Akademi President Vishwanath Prasad Tiwari and National Book Trust Chairman Baldeo Bhai Sharma conferred the award comprising a cash prize of Rs 75,000, a shawl and a citation.
