 J&K Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passes away

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed passed away in New Delhi on Thursday morning of multiple organ failure, after a prolonged illness, and was buried with state honours in his home town of Bijbehara.He was 79.

 

Mehbooba Mufti, 56, is expected to take over as the first woman chief minister of the state

 

 About Mufti Sayeed

  • Mufti Sayeed was born on 12 January 1936 in Bijbehara town of Anantnag district to a family of clerics.

  • He served twice as the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir; for three years from November 2002 till November 2005 and then again from March 2015 until his death in January 2016.

  • He was also Home Minister of India from December 1989 to November 1990.

  • He founded the Jammu and Kashmir People's Democratic Party,

 

Test captain of South Africa, Hashim Amla resigned. 

Hashim Amla made the shock decision to resign as South Africa Test captain following the drawn second Test with England in Cape Town on Wednesday.

Amla took over from Graeme Smith in June 2014, overseeing four wins, six draws and four defeats in 14 Tests.

Cricket South Africa confirmed De Villiers, the one-day captain, was now the frontrunner for the Test role permanently

 

Apurvi Chandelahas won gold at Swedish Cup Grand Prix 

Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela broke the world record on way to winning gold in the women’s 10 metre air rifle event at the Swedish Cup Grand Prix.
Chandela shot 211.2 in the event held on Tuesday to surpass the feat of Chinese Olympic gold medallist Yi Siling, who held the record with 211.
 
Sam Pitroda appointed as Technical Advisor of Odisha Government
Satyanarayan Gangaram Pitroda, popularly known as Sam Pitroda, on 6 January 2016 was appointed Technology Advisor to the Odisha Government.Pitroda was appointed as the technology adviser for development of telecom, electronics, IT, ITES sectors of the state.
 
About Satyanarayan Gangaram Pitroda;
  • Satyanarayan Gangaram Pitroda was born in Titlagarh, Odisha, India.
  • Pitroda is a telecom engineer, inventor, entrepreneur and policymaker.
  • Pitroda launched the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) in 1984 and served as advisor to then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in 1987 on Technology Missions.
  • He was also the founding chairman of India’s Telecom Commission.
 

Union Cabinet approves Stand Up India Scheme for women and SC/ST

The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the “Stand Up India Scheme” to promote entrepreneurship among SC/ST and Women entrepreneurs.

 

The Scheme seeks to facilitate at least two such projects on an average one for each category of entrepreneur per bank branch.


Features of Stand Up India Scheme;

  • The scheme is a part of Start-up India, Stand up India slogan, spread by the Department of Financial Services (DFS) to encourage entrepreneurial projects.

  • The Stand Up India scheme will facilitate two entrepreneurial projects on an average of one for each category (Women and SC/ST) of entrepreneurs per bank branch.

  • The scheme will provide financial aid through the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) with an initial amount of Rs 10,000 crore.

  • A credit guarantee system would also be implemented under the scheme through the National Credit Guarantee Trustee Company (NCGTC), which will act as the operating agency for financial aids.

  • The system will personally guide each entrepreneur through the pre-loan and operational phases.

  • The margin money for the composite loan will be up to 25 percent to help the credit system reach out to the entrepreneursLoan amounts from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 1 crore will be given to female and SC/ST entrepreneurs that will be repayable up to seven years.

  • The scheme will also familiarise the entrepreneurs with factoring services, e-market places and registration with online platforms and other aspects of web entrepreneurship.


Kunal Shahhas been appointed as Chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India 

FreeCharge co-founder and CEO Kunal Shah was on 5 January 2016 appointed as the Chairman of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI).

 

He has replaced Nishant Rao, who is now the global Chief Operating Officer of Freshdesk.
